Happy New Year, time to hang on tight and kick butt in marketing.

For those of you that have been tracking where your leads come from during fast times you just might be ahead if you can keep tapping into those proven paths and expand upon them. Those that haven't been tracking can start with their existing base for referrals and expand with past and current customers.

Take advantage of this tighter economy to scrutinize what you are doing in marketing and how it performs, research new techniques and test drive them since you may be able to take some time to implement these yourself directly so when the economy picks up you will have new marketing tools ready to go and be better organized in your promotional efforts with evaluations.

Make sure you can validate why your services or product fit the audience today, several marketing messages must be adjusted during tighter times and reductions need to be found. For example with my marketing services I can coach more and provide the critical points while the clients can take on more of the administrative/management portion of the work to save funds, we can evaluate suppliers, materials, and rank marketing efforts by results with our extensive experience to assist customers with choosing what will work best for them. The key is not to let experts go, but to really tap into their area of expertise and stay focused.

Interesting article in "Promo Magazine by Peter Meyers" today regarding how the young prefer mail, yes they said direct mail not email for information. They defined young from 18-34 years old and listed privacy for the main reason.

The other surprise was that this age group preferred direct mail more strongly than the other groups surveyed.

This group could be tired since they have been using the Internet and email longer than most, which could explain for their strong preference to receive product/service information via direct mail instead.

What I took away was to review how customers want to receive information, it might surprise you and to keep checking since it could change.

The other articles I have read recently are also warning us to be careful with phone text messages- I agree since it feels like the old days of receiving promotional faxes at your expense (your paper, ink, etc.).

Courtesy is still in style!
